Virginie Fazel studied French literature and Social sciences at the University of Lausanne (Bachelor 2012—2015) and Sociology of religion at the University of Fribourg (Master 2016-2018). For her Master’s thesis, she conducted a qualitative research in Lebanon on the impact of war and forced migration on the religiosity of Syrian refugees. Her thesis was awarded with two prizes.
She has several professional experiences working with non-governmental organisations in the fields of the right to education and women empowerment, in Switzerland, Cambodia, Vietnam and Lebanon. She also worked as a project manager for the Swiss association digitalswitzerland.
Virginie is a PhD student for the research “Digital Relations & Local Religious Communities”. This project is part of the University Research Priority Programme “Digital Religion(s)”. Virginie studies the situation of young people with a migration background (refugees or asylum seekers) in Switzerland. Her research questions focus on multiple belongings, between local, transnational and/or digital communities, as well as on the role of digital religion in a context of migration.
