Marie Jäckel studied Social Sciences in Berlin (DE) and Bergen (NO) and completed her Master's degree in the Study of Religion and Sociology at the University of Zurich in January 2024. She was employed at the URPP Digital Religions, at the Chair of the Study of Religion with a focus on Social Sciences and the Chair for the Study of Religion with a Focus on a Systematic-theoretical Approach at the University of Zurich. In 2024 she was a researcher at the University of Basel in the SNF-funded project “Are Religions becoming Green? II” and gathered additional experience in quantitative and qualitative research.
Since January 2025 Marie is a PhD student in the Cluster "Conspiracy Theories in Online Environments and Their Religious Connotations" of the URPP Digital Religion(s) and at the chair for the Study of Religion with a focus on Social Sciences. Focusing on the “Great Replacement” conspiracy theory, Marie researches a) how these narratives shape the discourse around Muslims online and b) how this affects the way Muslims are perceived by those who believe in the conspiracy theory. c) Additionally, the project examines how this in return affects Muslims themselves.
