Biographical Information

Marie Jäckel is a doctoral researcher at the RWS and the UFSP Digital Religions, where she conducts her own research project on the New Right, discourses on migration policy, and the role religion plays within these debates. Her work combines online ethnography with analogue, interview‑based field research.

She studied Social Sciences in Berlin (DE) and Bergen (NO) and completed her Master’s degree in the Study of Religion and Sociology at the University of Zurich in January 2024. Throughout her studies she has worked at the URPP Digital Religions, at the Chair for the Study of Religion with a focus on Social Sciences, and at the Chair for the Study of Religion with a Systematic‑Theoretical Approach at the University of Zurich. In 2024, she was a researcher at the University of Basel in the SNF‑funded project “Are Religions Becoming Green? II”, where she gained additional experience in both quantitative and qualitative research, additionally to her early publication activities.

Marie Jäckel represents the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies on the GRC Career Grants Committee, the funding commission for early‑career researchers at the University of Zurich.

PhD Project

Since January 2025, Marie Jäckel is part of the research project of the URPP Digital Religions in Cluster D. Her current fieldwork focuses on forms of agency in the context of narratives about migration and Islam in Germany and Switzerland, particularly surrounding the idea of a “population replacement".
